Equipment Weight
Some equipment types support storing a weight for tare calculations:
- Server/Carafe: Subtract server weight to get actual brew weight
- Dosing Cup: Subtract cup weight for exact coffee dose
- Dosing Tray: Subtract tray weight when weighing beans
- Milk Pitcher: Track pitcher weight for milk steaming
- Portafilter: Subtract portafilter weight for accurate dosing
- Filter Basket: Record the weight of a precision basket for accurate dosing
The weight field only appears for equipment types that support it, and it follows your unit system: grams in metric, ounces in imperial.
A recorded weight also powers Auto-Tare: when the equipment rests on a connected scale, Beanstats recognizes it by weight and tares automatically.
Brew Defaults
Mark equipment as a default for a brewing style with the Default for Filter Brews and Default for Espresso Brews toggles in the equipment form. Espresso tools only offer the espresso toggle.
When you start a new brew, the defaults for the selected brewing style are preselected. Switching brewing style swaps the defaults, as long as you haven’t touched the equipment selection yourself. This means features that rely on assigned equipment, such as vessel auto-tare, work without opening the equipment section at all.
Picking a brew method merges the method’s associated equipment into an untouched selection instead of replacing it, so your style defaults and the method’s equipment combine.
