Share Your Beans and Brew Methods

You’ve dialed in the perfect V60 recipe. A friend asks: “What beans are those, and what’s your method?” You could describe it over text, or you could just send a link.

Beanstats now lets you share coffee beans and brew methods with anyone. Generate a shareable link or QR code, send it however you like, and the recipient can import everything into their own Beanstats library with a single tap.

What You Can Share

Beans

Share any bean in your library. The link carries the full picture: bean name, roaster, roast level, roast date, origin details (country, farmer, elevation, process method), tasting notes, your rating, and whether it’s a blend or single origin. If it’s a blend, all the individual components come along too.

Brew Methods

Share your brew methods complete with default parameters (coffee dose, water weight, grind size, water temperature, and brew time) plus the full recipe with step-by-step instructions and timing.

How It Works

  1. Open a bean or brew method and tap the share button
  2. Beanstats generates a short link like share.beanstats.com/s/Xk9mQ2aB and a branded QR code
  3. Send it via iMessage, Slack, Discord, email, or any other way you share links
  4. The recipient taps the link. If they have Beanstats installed, it opens directly in the app with an import preview. If not, they see a styled preview page in their browser with an option to get the app.

Rich Previews

When you paste a share link into Slack, Discord, Twitter, or iMessage, it automatically unfurls into a rich preview card. For beans, the card shows the name, roaster, origin, tasting notes, and rating. For brew methods, it shows the recipe parameters and step count.

No extra effort needed. The previews are built in.

QR Codes

Every share generates a branded QR code styled to match the Beanstats look. These work great for sharing in person: at a coffee shop, a cupping session, or taped to a bag of beans you’re gifting.

Importing a Share

When you receive a share link and tap it, Beanstats opens an import preview showing all the details. You can review everything before importing.

If you’ve already imported the same bean or method before (tracked by a unique identifier), Beanstats lets you know and gives you the choice to import it again or skip. No accidental duplicates.

Expiring Shares

Shares can optionally be set to expire, anywhere from 1 to 365 days. After that, the link stops working and the preview page shows an expiration notice. If you don’t set an expiration, the link stays active indefinitely.

Behind the Scenes

Share links are powered by a dedicated service at share.beanstats.com. Every share request is authenticated using Apple App Attest, a cryptographic verification system that ensures only the genuine, unmodified Beanstats app can create shares. This means no one can spoof or tamper with shared content.

Links use compact 8-character IDs and are served through Apple’s Universal Links, so iOS knows to hand the URL directly to Beanstats instead of opening a browser.

Getting Started

Sharing is available to all Beanstats users. To share:

  1. Open any bean or brew method
  2. Tap the Share button
  3. Copy the link or show the QR code

To import a share someone sent you, just tap the link. Beanstats handles the rest.

Happy brewing!
